Micah Richards says what he finds 'mad' about Liverpool this season under Arne Slot

Liverpool came from 2-1 down to beat Southampton 3-2 away from home, with the result potentially pivotal in the Premier League title race.

Manchester City’s shock 4-0 loss to Tottenham meant Liverpool’s win on the south coast extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points, with Arne Slot’s side facing off against the reigning English champions later this week at Anfield.

With Pep Guardiola admitting that Liverpool beating City would make them favourites for the title, the Merseyside giants will feel confident in their quest to go all the way in the Premier League and to bring the biggest prize in English football back to Anfield.

And Micah Richards has been amazed by one thing about Liverpool this season under Slot.

Liverpool ‘running away with the league’ despite not playing well

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the pundit shared his amazement at how Liverpool are dominating the Premier League this season despite not playing at their absolute best, with the Reds arguably getting lucky against Southampton in their win on Sunday.

The Anfield side had to rely on a late penalty to secure all three points, and Southampton could have came away with something had their finishing been more precise, with Jamie Carragher criticising the likes of Ibrahima Konate for his defensive performance.

Richards said: “Do you know what is mad? Liverpool are not even playing that well at this moment in time. They are running away with the league, they still have another level to go, they are giving up daft opportunities.

“After the international break, you expect it, there were a couple of changes and a lot of teams play that way. But they were lethargic, and then the second half, a split second, they can bring on substitutions, Salah gets into the game, they take their moment and are clinical in front of goal. And they play Man City next week and could be 11 points clear for a team which I think can only get better.”

Liverpool could reach a new level under Slot in 2025

Liverpool’s performances have been far from anything special, with Slot’s tactics ensuring that the Reds come away with wins on a consistent basis through smart game plans and big moments from star players.

Yet 2025 and a number of new signings could see Liverpool reach that new level under Slot, who has shown in previous jobs that he can produce stunning football that leads to big results and huge scorelines.

Indeed, Slot has been the dream Jurgen Klopp replacement for Liverpool, and the Reds know that they can hit another new level under Dutch coach with the right new additions in 2025.
