Mohammed Ahmed leads skeet qualification in Nagoya

UAE shooter Mohammed Ahmed hit all 50 targets on the opening day of skeet qualification at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. He topped the interim standings in the men's individual event and advanced to the next qualifying round.

As The National reports, another UAE representative, Saif bin Futtais, missed one target and scored 49 points. He was in fourth place after the first day.

Race for the final

The second day of men's skeet qualification will take place on Tuesday. The top eight athletes will advance to the final, scheduled for Wednesday. Ahmed and bin Futtais remain in contention to reach the final.

Other performances by the UAE team

In the 10 m air rifle event, Salem Mohammed Rashid Al-Yamahi scored 611.8 points, while Sultan Saleh Mohammed Hassan scored 595.2 points. Neither athlete reached the 630-point mark required to advance.

In swimming, Abdullah Al-Ameri recorded 28.72 seconds in the 50 m backstroke, Hamad Al-Shehhi completed the 50 m freestyle in 24.06 seconds, and Omar Al-Hammadi swam the 100 m breaststroke in 1 minute 8.78 seconds. None of them advanced to the finals.

The following day, Al-Ameri will compete in the 400 m individual medley. Safiya Al-Sayegh and Zahra Hussein will represent the UAE in the women's road race, while Al-Yamahi and Fatima Al-Suwaidi Hassan will compete in the mixed team air rifle event. The UAE football team will also play China in a Group B match, where it needs a win to advance to the playoffs.
