NIU Now 11-2 at Home, Most Home Wins Since 2021

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team cruised past both UIC and Judson at home on Saturday, defeating UIC 7-0 and Judson 4-0. NIU is now 11-2 at home this season, the most home wins in a single season since the 2021 dual season (13) and third most since 2013-14.

With the win over UIC, the Huskies swept their series against the Flames this season and moved to 5-1 atop the Mid-American Conference standings.

UIC

A 7-5 clinch from Iker Gaztambide Arrastia / Nikola Puntaric at No. 1 doubles gave NIU the early advantage. Lorenzo Leti Messina / Federico Scotuzzi took a 6-2 win at No. 3 opened the door for the Huskies to earn the point.

In singles, the Huskies swept on all six courts without dropping a set.

Judson

The Huskies jumped on the Eagles quick in doubles, securing the point within 20 minutes with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Pratyaksh LNU / James Theriault took a 6-2 win, Theriault's first doubles win of the year.

Puntaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia / Tulsa) locked in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Francisco Sanchez at No. 2 and was followed by a 7-6, 6-2 win from Chiao Bo Suo Nan (Taiwan / Taipei Municipal Jianguo), his first appearance at No. 3 all season.

Pratyaksh LNU (Delhi, India / Tagore International School) clinched the match 6-1, 6-1 over Joshua Bavich.

Both Puntaric and Suo Nan went 2-0 in singles play on the day.

The Huskies will travel to Buffalo and Toledo next weekend.
