Bhatia set to be at Anfield for first home fixture

Amit Bhatia, the new Liverpool vice-chairman, is set to attend the Reds' first home game of the season at Anfield on Saturday, when Andoni Iraola's side take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Bhatia, who stepped down as a co-owner and director at QPR last month after 18 years at the club, leads 1892 Holdings - a consortium that has bought around 38 per cent of Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) for just over £2bn.

The 46-year-old British-Indian millionaire businessman, who is based in London, is likely to be much more visible at Anfield than other members of the consortium or FSG.

The consortium includes billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and billionaire Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Bezos is based in America while Saverin is based in Singapore.

Bhatia will also take a place on an expanded Liverpool board that will include Elaine Saverin, the wife of Eduardo, and Bryan Baum, who is representing Bezos as part of K5 Sports (a venture capital firm founded by Baum).

The deal remains subject to approval from the new Independent Football Regulator and those involved must pass the Premier League owners' and directors' test.

When FSG confirmed that a minority stake had been sold to 1892 Holdings, Bhatia said: "We are incredibly proud to be investing in Liverpool Football Club and to be doing so alongside FSG.
