Arsenal face Manchester City today as the FA Community Shield takes centre stage in Cardiff.

The game pits together the reigning champions of the Premier League and the current FA Cup holders and acts as the traditional curtain-raiser for the new top-flight season.

The Community Shield - previously known as the Charity Shield until 2002 - usually takes place at Wembley Stadium, but this year is being held at the Principality Stadium for the first time in two decades.

That is due to the fact that music superstar The Weeknd is performing the latest date on his 'After Hours Til Dawn' tour at the home of English football on Saturday.

The last time Cardiff hosted the Community Shield in 2006, Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 thanks to a Peter Crouch winner after earlier goals from John Arne Riise and Andriy Shevchenko.

Crystal Palace are the current holders, having stunned Liverpool on penalties 12 months ago.

Now Arsenal and Man City go head to head in what is likely to be the precursor to another fiercely-contested title battle, meeting for the first time since City's dramatic 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium in April appeared to shift the race firmly in their favour, only for the Gunners to hit back and win their first championship for 22 years.

City also beat Arsenal 2-0 to lift a record-extending ninth Carabao Cup at Wembley in March thanks to Nico O'Reilly's brace, also going on to clinch the FA Cup for the eighth time in Pep Guardiola's final season in charge with a 1-0 win over Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca will hope to ensure a smooth transition to a new era as he now takes the reins, aiming to preserve City's unbeaten run in this fixture that stretches back to February 2025.

Bruno Guimaraes and Elliot Anderson are among the expensive new signings expected to be on show, while Arsenal will be boosted by the returns of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka as they look to win the Community Shield for the first time since beating City on penalties in 2023.
