Not Even MS Dhoni Can Do Anything To This Pakistan Team: Former Pakistan Captain

Pakistan are out of the Champions Trophy 2025 after two lacklustre displays against New Zealand and later against India. While it wasn’t just about them being knocked out, Pakistan’s performance across the two matches were far away from even the ODI standards in world cricket.

Their performance was so frustrating that former Pakistan skipper Sana Mir said that even MS Dhoni, the skipper, couldn’t save this team.

"The 15 that have been selected (in Champions Trophy squad), even if you make MS Dhoni or (former Pakistan skipper) Younis Khan captain, nobody can do anything to the team because it has not been selected on the basis of the playing conditions," said Mir on 'Game On Hai' programme.

"I was watching the match when I got a message from a friend that India are 100 for 2 'I think it's over'. So, I said the match was over when the squad was announced," she said.

Pakistan had only named one specialist spinner in their setup for the Champions Trophy, with Salman Ali Agha and Kushdil Shah being the two part-time options. Mir hit out at the selectors, stating that Pakistan lost the match when the 15-member squad was announced.

"Half the tournament we had lost when we announced the 15-member squad, and I am saying this from day one. They (selectors) knew that Pakistan had to play at least one match in Dubai, so how did you bring two part-time spinners," she added.
