England medium-pacer Chris Woakes was seen spin-bowling to Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis, after field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Joel Wilson mandated that pace bowling couldn't go on due to bad light, in between Woakes' over. It meant that the pacer couldn't continue delivering his usual balls and hence, had to resort to spin!

With bad light coming in to interrupt the game in London between England and Sri Lanka for the umpteenth time, umpires informed England skipper Ollie Pope that he had to bowl spin.

Woakes had already bowled two balls in the over, which was the seventh of Sri Lanka's innings, and he went on to deliver four balls of off-spin. Watch the video here:

Unfortunately, the inexperienced spinner Woakes also conceded a boundary in that over, off Pathum Nissanka . Four of those deliveries gave away six runs.

Notably, just after Woakes' half-spin over was finished, the umpires said that it had got brighter between the second and the final delivery of his over, and hence pace could be brought back. Gus Atkinson came in to bowl even as Ben Stokes looked stunned in the dressing room by the flow of events.

Meanwhile, Pope reached 154 before England was all out for 325 against Sri Lanka as the lower order collapsed on Day 2 of the third and final Test of the series on Saturday, September 7.

England managed only 104 runs after resuming on 221/3 as Milan Rathnayake, Vishwa Fernando and Dhananjaya de Silva each picked up two wickets at the Oval.

In one over before lunch, the visitors scored one run off Woakes to start their chase. Filling in as skipper for the injured Stokes, Pope has already led England to a series win against Sri Lanka after victories at Old Trafford and Lord’s.

England is looking to complete a clean sweep of home Test series in a summer for the first time in the last two decades, having defeated the West Indies 3-0 in July.
