Team Nigeria had a modestly successful outing at the just-concluded 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Glasgow, Scotland.Although Nigerian athletes won 10 fewer medals than they achieved four years ago in Birmingham, England, the reduced haul has more to do with the 2026 CWG being a scaled-back edition.Glasgow had stepped in to host the Games at the last minute after Victoria, Australia, pulled out of the responsibility in July 2023.With time and budget constraints, the Scottish city had to reduce the number of sporting events. Wrestling and table tennis, two of the sports that have won Nigeria numerous CWG medals, were among those cut.Regardless, Nigeria’s outing was not short of historic performances in Glasgow. Several youngsters announced their maturation, while some of the old guards continued their domination. The 20-year-old Samuel Ogazi won Nigeria’s first-ever CWG gold in the men’s 400m, while Kayinsola Ajayi’s bronze was the country’s first medal in the men’s 100m in 20 years.Folashade Oluwafemiayo broke her own world record to win gold in women’s heavyweight para-powerlifting. Goodness Nwachukwu also defended her title in the women’s para discus F42-44/61-64 event, setting a new world record, while 50-year-old Roland Ezuruike won silver in the men’s para-powerlifting lightweight event.Nigeria finished the competition with 24 medals — 10 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze — to clinch seventh on the final medals table.Athletics provided the most medals for Nigeria with 13 podium finishes, followed by para-powerlifting with six.Below is the full list of all 24 medalists for Team Nigeria at the 2026 CWG:GOLD MEDALISTSSamuel Ogazi — Men’s 400mEzekiel Nathaniel — Men’s 400m hurdlesChukwuebuka Enekwechi — Men’s shot putGoodness Nwachukwu — Women’s discus throw F42-44/61-64Folashade Oluwafemiayo — Para-powerlifting women’s heavyweightEsther Nworgu — Para-powerlifting women’s lightweightRiluwan Idris — Para-powerlifting men’s heavyweightRafiatu Lawal — Weightlifting women’s 58kgAdvertisementOnome Didih — Weightlifting women’s 53kgEdidiong Umuofia — Weightlifting men’s 71kgAdvertisementSILVER MEDALISTSJessica Oji — Women’s shot putRuth Usoro — Women’s long jumpUdodi Onwuzurike — Men’s 200mRita Ferdinand — Para-powerlifting women’s heavyweightEsther Onyema — Para-powerlifting women’s lightweightRoland Ezuruike — Para-powerlifting men’s lightweightRuth Nyong — Weightlifting women’s 48kgBRONZE MEDALISTSTobi Amusan — Women’s 100m hurdlesKayinsola Ajayi — Men’s 100mTemitope Adeshina — Women’s high jumpElla Onojuvwevwo — Women’s 400mFavour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede, Udodi Onwuzurike — Men’s 4x100m relayEzekiel Nathaniel, Patience Okon-George, Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo — Mixed 4x400mEnku Ekuta — Judo Women’s 63kg
