Liverpool claimed all three points at Selhurst Park with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace thanks to Diogo Jota's early goal, but the Eagles weren't happy with the decision not to award a second-half penalty

Oliver Glasner was adamant Crystal Palace should have had a penalty following Virgil van Dijk's tug on Marc Guehi during their 1-0 loss to Liverpool.

Liverpool claimed all three points at Selhurst Park thanks to Diogo Jota's early goal, but Palace boss Glasner was unhappy his side weren't awarded a second-half penalty. Van Dijk appeared to pull down Guehi as the Eagles skipper tried to arrive at the far post.

VAR checked the decision and stuck with the referee, with the Premier League issuing a statement defending the decision shortly after. They insisted: “The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge by van Dijk on Guehi is checked and confirmed by VAR - deeming that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no impact on the play.”

But that's not how the Eagles boss saw it.

He said: "I saw from TV we should have had a clear penalty for the foul on Marc Guehi.

"In this situation, Marc goes for the ball, it influences his run. I don't know why it's not a penalty, it's frustrating. He [Virgil van Dijk] holds him with two hands. It is clear when Marc makes the movement to the ball. If the same foul is on the halfway line it's a a foul - if it's foul, it's a foul.

"I didn't see it during the game and for me it was a clear foul. VAR had to intervene but they didn't."

Glasner was pleased with his side's second half display despite their failure to find an equaliser against the league leaders.

He told Match of the Day: "We showed a great reaction in the second half, we created chances but did not take them. We also didn't get the penalty. The second half gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

"I don't expect that we have so many chances all over the game because they are very well organised, very good defending and don't concede goals. We had a lot in the second half and that is what we have to continue."
