Andy Robertson tells Jamie Carragher how the Liverpool squad reacted to his 'selfish' comments on Mo Salah

Liverpool players laid down the ultimate statement on Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid.

Not only did the Reds beat the European champions, they did so relatively comfortably, too.

There were still a couple of blotches on the copybook unfortunately, though. Ibrahima Konate’s late injury is an enormous worry ahead of Manchester City at the weekend, while Mohamed Salah will be furious with himself after missing a second-half penalty.

It topped off a quiet night for Salah, where the Egyptian King let other Liverpool players steal the headlines for once.

After his controversial comments over his contract discussions at the weekend, all eyes were on Mo at the start of the game.

And after Jamie Carragher hit out at the Salah for his remarks, Andy Robertson told the former centre-back that he had been the talk of the Liverpool dressing room over the past couple of days.

After Salah went out of his way to put public pressure on the Liverpool owners to offer him a new deal, Carragher was not happy.

The Liverpool legend branded the timing of Salah’s words as ‘selfish’ given the week that lay in store for the Reds.

This hit a nerve with a lot of Liverpool supporters online, with Carragher spending much of the week defending himself from angry messages.

On Champions League nights, though, the 46-year-old is back to work with CBS Sports to feature on the panel for their popular Golazo show alongside Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and host Kate Abdo.

After his dressing down of Salah, it was always likely to be an interesting evening for Carragher covering Liverpool. And when Robertson was invited on after the final whistle against Madrid, Abdo simply had to ask him about Carragher.

“What do you guys think about him over there? Take us inside the dressing room, what are the thoughts on Jamie Carragher,” she posed.

“He’s been getting a bit of stick in the changing room this week, that’s for sure!” smiled Robertson, to rapturous laughter in the studio. “No, no comment… I think he gets paid to do his job, all of you do, it’s part and parcel of football he has to give his opinion. Whether we agree with it or not is a different story!”

Salah misses chance to answer back

Salah himself was never going to appear in front of the cameras himself on Wednesday.

Had he buried his spot-kick, perhaps the winger would have felt emboldened to come and take on Carragher himself.

But having sliced his shot wide and off the post, Salah missed a chance to answer the Scouser back in the best possible way.

Clearly, Liverpool were not put off in the manner that Carragher suggested they might be by Salah’s strong words, though.

As Robertson alluded to, Carra himself’s comments may well have ironically inflamed the situation far more.
