AFL legend Wayne Carey quietly erased from history as controversy erupts: 'This is embarrassing!'

Controversial North Melbourne great Wayne Carey has been sensationally scrubbed from history in a recent video released by the football club celebrating its 100-year history.

The former Kangaroos forward, who is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, was left out of a video shared by the club on Friday.

The video clip showcased the club's history and a special centenary guernsey that will be used in Round 20.

Ex-teammate of Carey's, Corey McKernan, has called out the club for overlooking Carey.

McKernan took to X, posting: 'FYI North Melbourne, you do know Wayne Carey played for us, don't you?'

In another post, he wrote: 'Explain how it happens? If the excuse is 'oh it's a young kid who did it and he didn't know' please spare me'.

In yet another tweet, he posted: 'Can North Melbourne answer why you'd leave out Wayne Carey for a football related video for such an occasion?'

Collingwood legend Mick McGuane also wanted answers about why Carey was absent.

McGuane posted: 'Love the concept and innovation North Melbourne, but if it's a 'true' celebration you cannot overlook your greatest ever player in the vision to promote it'.

Footy fans have also blown up about 'The King' not featuring in the clip.

'I've sent the club an email of my disgust,' posted one X user.

'This is embarrassing! How can you not have Wayne Carey in your video? Ridiculous,' replied another.

'Where the f**k is Wayne Carey … your greatest ever player?' said a third.

Carey has been accused of shocking behaviour towards women during and after his playing career.

In 1996, Carey admitted to indecently assaulting a woman by grabbing her breast on a Melbourne street. The case was settled out of court.

Despite this, Carey led North Melbourne to an AFL grand final win over Sydney that same year and played 271 career games.

In 2002, Carey had an affair with the wife of his best friend and North Melbourne vice captain, Anthony Stevens.

In 2007, Carey was arrested in the United States for allegedly breaking a wine glass in his fiancée Kate Neilson's face.

Neilson did not press charges but said she was left 'bleeding profusely from the mouth.'

Carey later pleaded guilty to two counts of battery of a law enforcement officer for fighting police after the incident.

In 2008, police used capsicum spray to subdue Carey after he assaulted officers in Port Melbourne.

In 2022, Carey was let go by Channel 7 after a 'white powder scandal' at a casino.
