Following No. 21 South Carolina’s 34-30 win over No. 23 Missouri, head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media about the game on Saturday. Here’s what he had to say.— Credit to Missouri. This was a top 25 matchup against a team that would come in here and play in a war-like game. Hats off to Brady Cook. Ton of respect for him.— What a win for his guys. The resilience they showed, never showing panic. They talk about remembering November and theyre putting together one heck of a story. It wasn’t pretty, though.— Thought the end of the first half was huge to get a lot of momentum going into the second half.— What a game. Dalevon Campbell, Brady Hunt, they had meaningful roles tonight. So proud of them. What a run by Rocket on the game-winning score. What a play by Kilgore on the game-sealing interception. So much good tonight.— Didn’t feel there was a ton of energy after Missouri scored first on the opening drive. But the crowd was a weapon throughout the game. That game was a blur. Happy for the team and fans. It’s great to have the Mayor’s Cup back in Columbia, South Carolina.— They were fortunate to have three timeouts on the go-ahead touchdown drive in the final minute. They knew they were in field goal range but they weren’t playing for overtime. But they also wanted to be smart. They wanted to pop a run and did that. They were going to call a timeout and then taken a shot at the end zone. But they liked their opportunities. Great way to finish.— What a dude LaNoris Sellers is. Doesn’t like defenders getting into the backfield hitting him. But he’s Superman. Credit to him for the plays he made, especially on the one where he broke out of the potential third-down sack. He just makes plays. The moment is never too big for him.— Missouri has a really good offensive line. That’s a really good OL they have. Thought A&M had the best OL but watching these dudes, they’re really good. They make it tough on you when they play with an extra offensive lineman. But they give you a lot of unbalanced formations. Gotta be better on defense. Was more disappointed with the ability to get pressure on the quarterback early on.— Thought they could get the first down on the quarterback sneak they ran on fourth down. But he was wrong. He had asked Clayton White about it and he was fine with it but White asked if they had a tush push they could run on that play. But it’s something they’ve been working on to prepare for those situations. It’s not a uninformed decision. Wanted to show confidence in his team.— When you go through shared struggles together, he truly believes it makes them closer and more resilient. They went though some shared struggles last year and with some tough losses earlier this season. This is a resilient group. What a way to finish tonight.— The reserve is something they’ve been working on for two to three weeks. He was holding his breath on the exchange between Juju and Harbor. But it’s something they felt like it was a good time to call to get field position.— Judge Collier went to the hospital. He had an upper body injury. Everything is fine. He’ll be okay.— There’s no unselfishness with this group. They compete and play. Brady Hunt never complained, same thing with Dalevon Campbell. They continued to work. They’re so much fun to coach because of the young men they are.— This program is on the right track. The young players in this program, the recruits, the ones they are recruiting, the best days of South Carolina football are right in front of them. Truly believes that with the direction they are going. It’s pretty cool to be a part of.— Happy for the seniors on this team to win the Mayor’s Cup back. No one in the room had ever seen it or held it. Never made a big deal about this being a trophy game. But did so this week. Wanted the seniors to finish their careers by winning this game. Need to make sure this place is packed next Saturday and honor the seniors the way they deserve to be honored when South Carolina plays Wofford.— It was an emotional night. Any time a team beats you five years in a row, it has extra meaning. This one did as well. The seniors didn’t want to finish their careers never having beat Missouri. There were a lot of guys that came up to him and hugged him. There were a lot of really cool moments from tonight. Hopefully this game trumps the rain game from 2018.— They have depth at all positions. They’ve got depth on offense. It just says they have a lot of guys that continue to get better.— It’s huge to be able to execute a pair of two-minute drills. It’s something they talk about all the time. You leave this offense a minute-plus with three timeouts, he likes their chances. They do it every Sunday night and Thursday at practice.
