This was Ankur’s second WTT Youth Contender title at the Under-19 level. He won his first title in 2023 in Tunis.Ankur led 8-5 in the opening game of the final. Faraji bounced back to make it 8-8 but India’s Under-19 national champion won three of the next four points to take a 1-0 lead.Ankur, who is junior world No. 13, found himself in a spot of bother against his junior world No. 18 opponent in the next two games but pulled off stunning comebacks.Ankur was down 10-8 in the second game but saved six game points before winning the battle on his first game point.In the third game, Ankur started with a 6-0 deficit but managed to equalise at 7-7. He then saved two game points and clinched the match with a 3-0 scoreline.In the semi-finals, Ankur beat Hong Kong China’s Man Lung Sai 3-0 (11-6, 12-10, 11-5). In all, Ankur played five matches at the WTT Youth Contender Cappadocia 2025, winning all matches without dropping a game.In 2024, Ankur Bhattacharjee finished as the runner-up at the WTT Youth Contender Dammam, falling to Kazakhstan’s Alan Kurumangaliyet 3-1.Last month, he won India’s u-19 national title by defeating PB Abhinand 4-1 in the final.
