Victory over Manchester United in the final of the seven-a-side competition ensured the Blues went into the summer break having lifted a trophy – and with an exuberance that Thompson believes can be carried into next season.

'It was a way for us to have fun and compete, but at Chelsea, we always want to win in anything we do,' reflected the U.S. international after the three-day tournament had come to a successful conclusion for the Blues.

'We kept on believing in each other [in the final], knowing that even when we were down, we were still able to come back and win. I think that is something that we want to keep doing with Chelsea.

'Having a lot of fun together is something we kind of lost during the season, so having a lot of fun together, believing in each other, and being able to come back from things that might seem impossible is something we can bring into next season.'

Chelsea played five matches across Thursday, Friday and Saturday; each of them ended with the Blues celebrating victory.

Rolling substitutes ensured available member of the Blues squad played their part in our success and Thompson says she enjoyed the format of the competition, which Chelsea were competing in for the first time.

'I think it's really fun, like being able to celebrate every goal, the player walkouts and things like that,' she said.

'Being able to be so close to the fans is really cool, and I think just this style of play is really exciting for fans to watch, and it's been really fun just being able to play with my teammates.

'I do like playing on the big field, but I think it's nice to be able to get to end-to-end pretty quickly, whether it be attacking or defending. I just wanted to help my team in any way, so it was really fun being able to play with everyone.'
