Match Awards from Bayern Munich’s stunning 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen

Bayern Munich recorded their fourth straight win in the league and will maintain their position atop the Bundesliga table as they saw off Werder Bremen thanks to another 5 goals, this time courtesy of Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Micheal Olise, and Serge Gnabry. Here are some players that stood out:

Jersey Swap: Niklas Stark

Yes, despite the abysmal defensive performance from Bremen tonight, a defender (Stark) gets this honor. Stark was far better than his fellow defenders and had a solid game. Also, Bremen failed to register a single shot, so it is only fair that the defenders who actually did have something to do get the award.

Der Kaiser: Konrad Laimer

Maybe this is cheating, but Laimer started at right-back and had a fantastic performance higher up the pitch, overlapping very well with Joshua Kimmich and establishing a strong partnership with Micheal Olise. Laimer was everywhere the action was and started really strong, so he wins this award — despite not really functioning as a defender.

Fußballgott: Joshua Kimmich

Aleksandar Pavlović had a good game and some brilliant distribution, but Kimmich was on another level tonight. He started slow, playing pretty much as a right back, and was seen even behind Laimer often in the first half while occasionally drifting inwards and forward during key stages of buildup.

But the second half saw a change as Kimmich became more involved in the attack and played an all-around fantastic half. Kimmich showed once again his tendency to play on the right side of the pitch can be a great tool for Kompany in this system, especially when paired with another right-back who allows him to move into the center exactly when he needs to. More of this please, Josh!

Der Bomber: Harry Kane

This was a tough choice between Musiala, Kane, and Gnabry, especially given the latter’s instant impact after coming on as a substitute. However, Kane takes this one away thanks to his two assists and a single goal, a tally that could certainly have been far higher. Kane is meant to thrive in this set-up, which allows him to drift around and take a creative role while also being close enough to jump right in when needed, which is exactly what he did to score Bayern’s third.

Kane continues to show why he should be given the freedom to create as well as score, making it 4 assists and 5 goals in 4 games for the English superstar.

Man of the Match: Michael Olise

Who else? Great game awareness and a quick run gave Olise his first goal, an outstanding dribble into the box, and a quick cross set up Musiala for Bayern’s second. But he was far from done as a beautiful cutback and pass back to Kane allowed for Bayern’s third and a one-two with Gnabry saw him score a brace and make it four.

Olise showed how every aspect of his game is a different class, a league above the rest. After far too long, Bayern have found their voice on the wings again. Fans will want much more of this because it is impossible ever to get tired of watching someone like him play football.
