Alexis Mac Allister attempts Lisandro Martinez joke after Anfield goal

Manchester United deserved more against Liverpool on Sunday.

The biggest fixture in the Premier League took place this weekend, with Manchester United drawing 2-2 against Liverpool at Anfield.

Manchester United performed a lot better than in recent weeks after going into the game winless in four.

The Reds opened the scoring after 52 minutes through Lisandro Martinez, but his goal was cancelled out by Cody Gakpo’s leveller seven minutes later.

Liverpool’s equaliser was followed by a Mohamed Salah penalty that briefly looked to have earned the victory that would have increased Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League.

However, Amad Diallo’s late goal earned United a point as they left Anfield feeling as though they deserved three points.

Harry Maguire missed a glorious chance to win the match in stoppage time but sent his effort over the crossbar and into the stands.

Alexis Mac Allister attempts joke about Lisandro Martinez

It’s not often Martinez gets on the scoresheet for United.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is friendly with the centre-back from their time together in the Argentina national team, although their friendship took the backseat for 90 minutes over the weekend.

Mac Allister was shocked to see Martinez get on the scoresheet against Liverpool. The goal was superbly taken as he struck the ball like a striker past Alisson Becker, leaving the Liverpool goalkeeper helpless between the sticks.

After the game, Mac Allister spoke to TyC Sports about Martinez finding the back of the net.

“I have a very good friendship with Licha,” Mac Allister said. “It’s incredible, because he doesn’t score a goal against anyone, but he scores a goal against us.

“So nothing, I teased him a bit.”

Surely if any joke is to be had it should be at Liverpool’s expense since Martinez, who rarely scores, was able to score against them.

Mac Allister also commented on how Martinez celebrated by placing the ball under his jersey, indicating he’s expecting a baby in the new year.

“I’ll probably stop to say hello and chat for a while. And well, I wish him the best. I knew that his wife is pregnant, so I hope he comes back full of joy, good health and that they can be very happy as a family.”

Martinez issues demand to Manchester United team-mates

It’s no secret that United’s first-team need to improve as they sit 13th in the Premier League table.

Martinez took to Instagram after United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool demanding that his teammates do more to improve results in the new year.

The Argentine also thanked United fans for their incredible support at Anfield.

Martinez and his team-mates know the only way to improve United’s league position is by winning football matches.
