Hannah Southwell to depart Knights

The nib Newcastle Knights have agreed to a request from Hannah Southwell, granting an immediate release from the remainder of her NRLW playing contract.

After considering all the factors presented by Hannah and her service to the Newcastle Knights, the club has decided to approve the release.

Knights Director of Football Peter Parr said the NRLW captain departs with the Club’s approval.

“Hannah has been a wonderful player for the Knights, including captaining the team to the 2023 NRLW premiership,” said Parr.

“The Newcastle Knights would like to thank Hannah for her time with the Club and wish her all the best for the future.”

Southwell shared some memories and reflections of her time at the Knights. “I love this Club, and I always will, it’s just time for something different and to push myself,” said Southwell.

“This is a mutually beneficial outcome for both parties.

“I’ve made best friends for life in Newcastle, this is my home, and it always will be.

“I would like to wish the Club and my teammates nothing but the best for the future.

“Thank you to the fans and supporters, my coaches, physios and people behind the scenes, you have all been second to none and I leave with great memories.”

The Newcastle Knights have agreed to respect the confidentiality requirements of this matter and will make no further public comments.
