“He Matched The Cringe Situation” - Trinity Rodman Reveals 1st Message to Boyfriend Ben Shelton & Story Of How They Met

Trinity Rodman recently shared the story of how she and Ben Shelton first met and revealed the first message she sent to the American tennis star.

Shelton was last seen in action at the Canadian Open, where he delivered a strong performance to successfully defend his title by defeating Brandon Nakashima, 6-3, 7-6(4), in the final on Friday. He is now set to begin his Cincinnati Open campaign on Saturday, although his opening-round opponent is yet to be decided.

Throughout his run in Canada, one of his biggest supporters was his girlfriend, Rodman, who appeared on the 'Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce' podcast on Thursday. During the appearance, the USWNT star opened up about her relationship with Shelton. Revealing the first message she sent to the tennis player, she said:

"I'll tell you, I said you're sick. That's it. You're sick, fire emoji. It worked. He responded within 10 minutes, so I win. It was a stretch. It was within the hour," said Ben Shelton's girlfriend.

She also opened up about how they first met, saying Shelton matched her "cringe situation." Calling it an "instant connection," she said:

"It was an instant connection, because again, our schedules were just so crazy that we DM and we're just catching up. He responded, and I was like, you were sick at the Olympics. And then a week or two later, we met in person. He matched the cringe situation. He literally, like, flew out for the entire weekend. I like fully committed to this guy that I didn't even meet yet for him to stay at my house," Trinity said.

She added:

"It's insane. I remember I was waiting for him to get to my house from the airport. He Ubers to my house, and I'm like on FaceTime with my sister-in-law. Ah, I don't know what to do. Like, I can't just be like sitting. Do I put on a show, like, what am I supposed to do with myself? So I just pretend that I'm breaking down boxes of packages that I had. I'm using like scissors and breaking down boxes and there's like a knock on the door. I'm, like, I'm so busy, so at the door, I open, there's a little hug. I just walked straight back to my box and started and he then just joined in."

Ben Shelton and Trinity Rodman began publicly dating in March 2025.

During her appearance on the 'Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce' podcast, Ben Shelton's girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, also opened up about how much she enjoys being a "WAG." Calling it the "best feeling in the world," she said:

"It's the best feeling in the world, honestly. I think to know we're both on the grind, running our bodies to the ground, always exhausted, doing what we love, and then to also be able to be a little like a WAG in a sense, it feels so good for us," Rodman said.

The soccer player was last seen in the stands during Ben Shelton's fourth-round clash against Joao Fonseca on Monday at the Canadian Open. She flew directly to Montreal and surprised the American after her match against the North Carolina Courage on Saturday.

Rodman also recently posted a TikTok video offering a glimpse of her journey from Utah to Washington, D.C., after her soccer match against the Utah Royals to support Ben Shelton during his round-of-16 match against Ugo Humbert on July 31 at the Mubadala DC Open.
